There is no doubt the Epson Stylus S21 is inexpensive to buy but is it cheap? First thing to mention is that the Epson S21 ink cartridges are anything but cheap, they cost just as much as the printer does! Although compatible printer ink cartridges are available, which cost 60% less than the genuine Epson printer cartridges. The build quality of the Stylus S21 feels predictably cheap, but it has to be said it not as bad as some o f the budget printer from other brands. The worse feature of the S21 is the operating noise; the S21 at its noisiest when it pulls in new sheets of paper. Printing performance is good, the genuine inks contain Epson’s DURABrite Ultra ink which is an ink technology design to give better prints and protect them from general wear and tear, and this shows in the prints results. The speed in which the S21 prints is less impressive however, Epson claims that the D92 can print 25 pages per minute but the is in draft mode and the print is barely readable in the quality setting, in the real world the S21 is capable of printing 2.5 pages per minute. Photo print are every slower as they require the highest quality setting and a 10 x 15 photo print takes over 5 minutes to print. The Stylus S21 is not a photo printer so it unfair to judge it on these tasks however it is deigned to be a general purpose printer and it doesn’t do general printing especially brilliantly either.
